Dear Swell Dames,
It’s been wonderful spending the last year in your delightful company as we explored the backstories of twenty iconic women who became the leading ladies in their own lives when history would have counted them out.
I have been writing about women’s lives spanning the 19th and 20th centuries for three decades now. I’ve always been fascinated by the continuing mystery of why some women faced catastrophic challenges and circumstances with resilience when others could not recover. I’ve gained some insight that I would love to share with you in a practical process.
I’ve discovered that while each of us experiences universal, life-changing incidents in different ways, the personal resolve to push on no matter what is the key to surviving and flourishing. This ability to adapt to new circumstances seems dependent on our ability to access what I’ve come to call our Spiritual Moxie—a feminine fortitude born of dauntless courage and stubborn faith.
During 2022 it’s been marvelous to research, write, read and discuss The Art of Starting Over with you. But before I get immersed in writing the book, I’d like to share with you the action steps I’m taking to bring my new personal dreams a reality in my daily round and the choices I make.
At this time, I am able to commit to this journey with you for the next three months. Here is what I wish to share:
Workshop 1—Understanding the power of your Personal Myth. Each of us has a personal myth. Do you know yours? Or maybe you thought you did. Does it still serve your growth? I have a surprise for you.
Your Personal Myth is your internal compass, a sacred birth gift meant to help you find your way through life’s labyrinth. The way you’ve weathered crises, taken risks, made choices, or recovered from loss has been determined by your belief system.
Think of your personal myth as your soul’s prime directive for the spiritual lessons you need to master at different stages in your life. It’s important that we understand our birth Personal Myth, but it’s crucial that we know that our Personal Myth changes as we grow into our authenticity and own our passions. It holds the power to hold us back, keep us stuck. We’ll unravel this together.
Workshop 2 – Working with your Personal Myth as a template for your future. The question What would you be doing right now if you knew you couldn’t fail? has appeared in many personal growth or self-help programs over the last twenty years, but this question is like an illusionist’s trick. Of course, you will fail, one way or another. Failure is the temporary scaffolding around any creative project. Swell Dames work with failure because it contains valuable information. Let’s begin to understand that failure is a blessing--a spiritual course correction—because there’s another Divinely inspired route to your success, probably off-road, spontaneous and synchronistic. So, strap in, and let’s rephrase that question:
How would you feel a year from now if you knew that you possessed all the passion, resilience, and spiritual moxie necessary to succeed?
Workshop 3 – Mythical Woman and Making Sense of It All. Understanding the mechanics of creative energy and how the process flows when you give your imagination permission to work with your intuition. That’s right, we hold ourselves back. How to rely on our intuition one hunch a day until it becomes the most joyous talent we have. I will share my personal hacks for stimulating the creative flow, being open to Divine Inspiration, and moving forward.
Blessings on your courage,
XO
Sarah
